2020 Summer Season Update

Hello MGSA Families,

It is with heavy disappointment that upon further review and partnership with the City of Medina, the MGSA Board of Directors have decided to officially cancel the MGSA Summer Rec League for 2020.

We did not make this decision lightly, and held out as long as we could with fingers crossed we would be able to see some version of our rec league this summer. Our decision was based upon review with area leagues, the City of Medina, and the Medina Board of Health. The decision was also based on several refund requests we have received, lack of equipment to prevent sharing (helmets, catchers gear, etc.), and the ability to properly enforce the current safety requirements on a wide scale.

We are working with our online registration vendor at this time regarding the refund process and will be issuing refunds to those who had registered and paid for the 2020 Summer Rec League as soon as possible. We appreciate your continued patience as we have these refunds processed.

-Regarding MGSA Fall Ball, the fall season has always started the Sunday after Labor Day. We will evaluate the possibility of having MGSA Fall Ball as we get later into the Summer.

-For Medina Heat travel softball, we typically hold tryouts every August. We do not know what these will look like this year but will post updates as we get closer for anyone interested in the Heat travel program.

We again express our deepest apologies and cannot wait to see our MGSA families back on the ballfields in the future.

2020 Season Update

Hello MGSA Families,

We hope everyone is safe and healthy in these trying times. Like you have, MGSA has been closely watching the developments and recommendations from the CDC and Governor DeWine. While Ohio will begin our reopening process in the near future, and while we are hopeful softball will be played this summer, we are not yet at the point to where we can make a final decision on our summer softball season.

We have worked with the City of Medina and have the ability to play our Rec Season later in the summer (such as July and August rather than June and July) if and when the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted for outdoor sports. Options are on the table as we work through these challenges such as starting the season later or playing a shortened season. That being said, the safety of our players, coaches, umpires, and our families is our top priority.

At MGSA, we firmly believe in the saying “Let Them Play.” This term means more to us now than ever before. We therefore will keep MGSA registration open on our website (medinafastpitch.com) all the way up until we have clearance to resume field activities and would set rosters at that time.

We truly appreciate everyone’s patience as we attempt to safely get back onto the ballfields this year. At the same time, if you would like to withdraw your child’s registration for 2020 and be refunded, we are of course willing to process same; please just email or private message us. We also wanted to be clear that if we are unable to play this year, refunds will be issued in full once that final determination is made.

We will continue to post updates as we learn more, but as always, please do not hesitate to email us or private message us with any questions or concerns you would like to discuss in the meantime.

While we are waiting for our season to start, remember that the fields are still open as long as we practice social distancing.

Spend some time playing catch with members of your household, practice your swing, or just enjoy time outside.

We will continue to keep you updated on our season via Facebook, our website, and email.

2019 Fall Ball Schedules

Schedules for the 2019 Fall Ball Season have been released.
Coaches should be in contact soon

PRACTICES AND FIELD CONDITIONS

Decisions to call off practices are at the discretion of the team's Head Coach - the league will not make weather-related decisions for practices.

We do ask, however, that since our fields have been updated, coaches please use good judgment when playing on wet fields - besides the inherent danger to the players, damage can be done to the infield.

If the field is "soggy" yet you believe you can still run some drills, please use the outfield grass.

A word about parking at Greenwood Park

We have  a very successful Summer rec ball, with plenty of fun, sun — and great games. We have a thriving league this season, with more than 400 girls playing in 5 age divisions. It is great to see so many parents, siblings and grandparents in the park, too, to watch the games and cheer on the players.

And now, a word about parking.

As many of you already know, it is against City of Medina ordinances to park on the grass in any city park, including Greenwood. The city has looked the other way but starting immediately, the Medina Police Department will ticket cars parked on the grass in the park.

We’ve reached out to the city and come up with a parking plan that we hope will make parking easier — and avoid ticketing. Here are the details:

1. There are two parking lots located within Greenwood Park that should accommodate most of our players and their families during the summer. The first is located on the south side of the park, on the top of the hill, directly across from the picnic pavilion and Splash Pad. If that lot is full, there is an even bigger parking lot on the western edge of the park near the soccer fields. Just follow the access road west and you will feed into that lot. Both of these lots are within easy walking distance of the ball fields.

2. If both of those parking lots are full, there are several options for overflow parking just outside the park, both in lots at A.I. Root Middle School across from the park entrance and on adjacent side streets such as Hartford, Bristol and Providence. The city has prepared a map, which we have attached to this post, with overflow parking options marked in yellow. Please remember if you are parking on adjacent side streets to park on the non-hydrant side of that street. These options are a little further away, but still an easy walk to the ballfields.

3. The city has promised to improve signage at Greenwood, to make it clear that parking is prohibited on the grass and directing drivers to the back, western lot if the front lot is full.

4. Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell has also promised that the police officers patrolling the park will not issue parking citations without ample, clear and friendly warning. They will come down to the softball fields to spread the word before issuing any citations.

We don’t foresee parking problems in the future. The two parking lots inside the park should accommodate a normal summer rec-ball evening..

Thanks for your patience and understanding

Volunteers need for Medina Girls Softball board, committee positions

Hi everyone! We need your help! We’re looking for people passionate about softball and girls sports to fill open positions on the board of the Medina Girls Softball Association and various committees. We have a great group of families in the league — and over the years, we’ve worked together to provide great recreational and travel softball leagues for thousands of girls in Medina. The competition is fun. The friendships are priceless. And along the way, the girls learn valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork & more.

But we need your help to ensure the future of these leagues — and to help them grow. If you’d like to get involved, please let us know.  We are always looking for need fresh ideas and new perspectives. And we’d love to work with you!
