Medina Fastpitch

The schedule of games for Fall Ball 2010 is below. Please note that because of the odd number of teams in each division, the schedule is slightly different than in previous years. Some games in Division 4 start each week at 11 AM. Some games in Division 3 start each week at 6:30 p.m. and will be played under the lights. Each week, one team in each division have a 90-minute break between their two games. Look at the schedule carefully! See you next week!

Tryouts for 2011 Medina Fastpitch travel teams will take place Saturday, Aug. 28, at Greenwood Park under the following schedule:

10U – 10 a.m. – Noon (Cannot be 11 before June 1, 2011)

12U – 10 a.m. – Noon (Cannot be 13 before June 1, 2011)

14U – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. (Cannot be 15 before June 1, 2011)

The tryouts will test players ability in hitting, bunting and fielding ground balls and fly balls. They will also be timed running the bases, from home to first and from second to home. Players should come prepared to play softball, with a bat, glove and appropriate footwear. Batting helmets will be provided for those who do not have their own.

Medina Fastpitch teams play in the Lorain-Medina Ohio Girls Softball League. League play will commence May 1, 2011. The regular season ends June 30. A post-season tournament is held in early July. Home games are played at Greenwood Park in Medina. Away games are played at ballparks in Lorain-Medina Ohio Girls Softball League communities throughout Medina and Lorain county, including Valley City, Wellington, Keystone, Columbia, Oberlin, Lorain, Amherst, South Amherst, Midview, Litchfield, Grafton, Belden, Spencer and North Ridgeville.

Practices are called at the discretion of the team’s head coach and may take place year-round if  fields and facilities are available. Official outdoor practices begin April 1 at Greenwood Park. The registration fee is $130 and includes a full Medina Fastpitch uniform.

Registration for the 2010 Fall League is open! It’s a six-week, 12-game season, with 70-minute, time-limited double headers each Sunday. The 2010 season starts Aug. 29. We’ll take Labor Day Weekend off, then play games Sept. 12, Sept. 19, Sept. 26, Oct. 3 and Oct. 10. Game times are 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. for the early doubleheaders, 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. for the late games. We’ll be offering play in Division 2 (ages 10 and under), Division 3 (ages 13 and under) and Division 4 (ages 18 and under).

Coaches are permitted to recruit their own rosters and register teams as a whole. If you are putting together a team, make sure your players include the coach’s name on the registraiton form. Players not recruited to specific rosters will be placed on teams by the league. Registration is $50, with discounts for multiple players from the same family.

 A Medina City Special Activities Permit is required if you do not live in the City of Medina or Medina Township.  The SAP can be purchased at the Medina Community Recreation Center, which is located behind Medina High School at 855 Weymouth Rd. (Rt. 3). The SAP can be purchased anytime the Rec Center is open. You may download the SAP form HERE and mail it in, with your SAP payment, to the MCRC.

You will receive an SAP number from the City of Medina. You put that number on the Medina Fastpitch registration form, then mail that to us with your Fall Ball registration fee.

NOTE:  SAP numbers are good for a calendar year. So if you purchased one already for any other youth sports activity in Medina, you can use that number for Medina Fastpitch Fall Ball.

All tournament games for Wednesday, July 21, are postponed because of rain. These games will be played on the same Greenwood fields in the same time slots on Thursday, July 22. Games originally scheduled for that Thursday will now be played on Friday, July 23, in same time slots and on same Greenwood fields.

The first round of single elimination games scheduled for Friday, July 23, will now be played in Saturday morning. Times TBA

The 2010 Recreation League Tournament kicks off Monday, July 19 at Greenwood Park and Ella Canavan, and culminates Sunday, July 25, with the championship games and annual MGSA Picnic. A full schedule of tournament games will be posted soon. But here are the details on the picnic@

PLAYERS, PARENTS & FAMILIES ARE ALL WELCOME.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES AT 1:00

FOOD WILL BE SERVED AT 3:00

Each player is asked to bring the following:

T-Ball – Cut up vegetables

Div 1 – Cut up Vegetables

Div 2 – 24 pack of Bottled Water

Div 3 – Desserts

Div 4 – Snacks (Chips, Pretzels, etc.)

MGSA is providing Hot Dogs and Pizza.

Water/pop may be brought earlier in the week, and dropped off at the concession stand.

Food should be given to the crew running the food tent.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP IN THE FOOD TENT.  IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE CONTACT A BOARD MEMBER.

UMPIRES VS. COACHES GAME starting at 4:00.

All umpires, blue or gray will be playing against coaches and parents.  Bring your own teams, or walk ons welcome.  This will be a slow pitch game, 7 innings, no time limit.  Have fun – no injuries!

The rained-out Division 1 games will be played the week of July 19 at Greenwood Park. Here is the schedule. All games at 6:30 p.m. Have fun!
